Antwerper wins gold at UCI Track Cycling World Championships, beating Australian silver medalist

The Antwerper beat the Australian Georgia Baker, silver medalist, 38 points against 31. The Japanese Tsuyaka Uchino obtained the bronze medal (14 pts) by beating everyone in the last sprint. The British Neah Evans, the defending champion, had to settle for 5th place (9 pts) behind the American Lily Williams (9 pts).

Kopecky, who had 39 points for Baker’s 31 before the last sprint, managed the end of the race very well and the Australian was unable to challenge her victory. The recent 2nd in the Tour de France had worn a first rainbow jersey in this event in 2021 in Roubaix.

In addition to her two points race titles, she has two rainbow jerseys in the elimination race (2022 and 2023) and two “rainbow jerseys” in the American (team race) with Jolien D’hoore in 2017 and Shari Bossuyt in 2022. She did not participate this season due to Bossuyt’s provisional doping suspension.
