Antwerp Exodus to West Flanders: A Historical Account of Hitler’s V-Bomb Revenge

From 1944 onwards, Hitler, who was cornered, took revenge with a months-long rain of V-bombs, which also severely affected the Antwerp region. 50,000 Antwerp refugees were received in West Flanders, including the father of national N-VA chairman and mayor of Antwerp Bart De Wever. The Verpoort family from Kortrijk took Henri ‘Rik’ De Wever, then 10, into their home. This was discovered by hobby historian Patrick Buyse from Rumbeke, who wrote Weg van ‘t Stad! wrote a book about the Antwerp exodus to West Flanders.
