On December 30, 2024, police responded to a reported aggravated burglary in Ahoghill, County Antrim. According to police reports, a masked intruder forced entry into a home in the Laurel Park area around 7:45 PM. The intruder allegedly brandished a firearm, targeting the male homeowner and a young female child. The homeowner quickly evacuated the premises with the child, ensuring their safety.
A statement released by the police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) detailed the incident: “It was reported that the intruder, who had his face covered, then pointed a gun at the male householder and a female child. The householder then left the property with the child.” Following the incident, a man in his 30s was apprehended and is currently in custody, facing charges including aggravated burglary, firearm possession, and drug-related offenses. In a separate, unrelated case, a man and a woman are in custody, charged with the murder of 50-year-old Mark Dorrian. Mr. Dorrian was found unconscious with head injuries at a West Street property in Newtownards on St. Stephen’s Day (December 26, 2024). He later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Carl Kerr, 36, and Claire rees, 33, appeared in Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 30, 2024, facing murder charges. Both defendants where remanded in custody. A PSNI detective sergeant testified that police have sufficient evidence linking the defendants to the crime. The court heard that a footprint was discovered on Mr. Dorrian’s head,a detail that is expected to play a notable role in the ongoing examination.
