Junior Pedroso is Antony’s agent and helped him write his book. “Antony grew up in Osasco, a neighborhood on the outskirts of the metropolis of São Paulo. A difficult childhood, a family with problems. Like many Brazilian boys, he only had one dream: to become a professional footballer.”
Uncertain time
Until the age of thirteen Antony played with Grêmio Esportivo Osasco. “When Antony was seven years old, he was already noticed by FC São Paulo. But then there was no team where he could play.”
“Only six years later, in 2012, he was still picked up and went through all the youth teams. An uncertain time followed. He was almost expelled three times, but each time he was allowed to stay.”
Antony really broke through at the end of 2018. “And that’s what the book is about. About how he had to behave between big players, the successes, the disappointments. He reveals all the details. His feeling. His image.”
A very striking passage in the book is about a girl named Larissa, says Pedroso. “Larissa is seven years old and recovering from cancer. She is a big fan of Antony and met her hero in 2019.”
