The artists have just released “Pirata” and spoke exclusively with Billboard Argentina.
The spanish musician Antonio Jose and the Venezuelan singer-songwriter Jerry Di teamed up for a song that promises to be one of the most listened to in the coming months. Is about “Pirate”, a song composed by both artists together with David Lorduy and Tezzel, which is already available on all digital platforms.
Antonio José and Jerry Di spoke exclusively with Billboard Argentina about his present:
How did they work on Pirata?
Jerry: Pirata is an original idea by Antonio José, a sound that he found on a trip to Medellín, the capital of urban music in the world, where he would meet Lorduy from Piso 21 who is a great friend of mine and together with the producer they would make this sound together A year after this, Antonio finds me looking for that Latin label and as soon as I heard the proposal, I connected immediately, especially because Antonio managed to make a spectacular sound even though he was so alien to the culture of this part of the world, do not hesitate. not a second. Now we are promoting all over Spain, we have already recorded the video and we are touring Seville taking the music to all the houses to spread this beautiful energy to people.
How are you today Antonio?
Antonio: Well, very happy and excited for everything we are experiencing, making this type of music for me is a completely new adventure and I am grateful that Jerry has given me the opportunity to do what I wanted to do so much.
Jerry, have you ever made Bad Decisions?
Jerry: Yes, I am an expert in that, but I try little by little to fly away, that’s what it’s all about, Bad Decisions was a song where I was able to capture that well and that people received as expected, it had the success it deserved, it met my expectations and now we continue working on that.
Antonio, when you talk about the trip, where does it take you?
Antonio: It takes me where I have always dreamed of taking me, to the heart of each person who listens to my music, I believe it is the most wonderful journey that my music can make.
How did the pandemic affect you when making music Jerry?
Jerry: After stages of frustration and depression that I encountered a lot because I had been working at an incredible speed and I felt very happy with what I was doing, this pandemic appears and I am immersed in an emotional crisis, but after months of thinking and improve the relationship with myself I realized that we as artists have a spectacular mission which is to provide joy, laughter, party and energy, that is what one shares and that is what gave me strength to continue working and face this mission of generating soundtracks of people’s lives, I had the strength to move on and I was able to correct paths, assimilate what I was living, the pandemic gave me that and today I feel a healthy, calm person and focused on what I want.
Antonio, do you feel that in the pandemic music worked as an antidote?
Antonio: totally, it has always been my antidote, music has always been, is and always will be, until one hands over the suit, for me there is nothing greater in this world than music and I am happy that life has given me the opportunity to belong to this profession that I love so much, I believe that there is nothing that is capable of connecting heaven with earth as easily as music does.
Could you tell me moments from your careers that have marked you?
Antonio: La Trastienda for me was a blessing, a feat, obviously it was not only my work, Universal Music Argentina, my entire team, Ana Clara who sent her a huge kiss, all my people and especially Luciano who made me enter through the Great door of his country, I have to be grateful to him for life because he performed at that important concert for him in Velez.
Jerry: Universal is a super nice episode, they gave me an incredible challenge, they gave me a very small opportunity to see what I was capable of and I managed to exceed expectations, not only from the label but from my work team and myself; It meant a lot to achieve a platinum record with the first song, that marked me a lot and everything else has been in front of my fans, people have given me wonderful experiences, they taught me the power of music.
Antonio, is music the art of living?
Antonio: totally, like the antidote.
Did you expect to be so successful with your Antonio records?
Antonio: One never expects anything, one works to be able to achieve that kind of thing and the truth is that I am not about setting expectations but I am about letting myself be carried away and living in the moment, never forgetting what it has cost me to get to where I am today .
And where you’re going?
Antonio: I go as far as the music lets me go, I improvise every day, I am clear about where I want to go and hopefully God allows me to go very far and achieve everything I set out to do, but I’m not obsessed with it, I let myself go, I work and believe in the destiny.
