Antonio Cassano’s brutal criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo, recently honoured by his club for surpassing the 900-goal mark in his career, was harshly criticised by a former Real Madrid player, the former Italian footballer, Antonio Cassano.

Cassano, during his time on the Viva el Fútbol programme alongside Nicola Ventola and Lele Adani, criticised CR7. The former Real Madrid player has never hidden his opinion of the striker, and has even insinuated that he does not know how to play football.

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t know how to play football. He can score 3,000 goals, I don’t care. Higuaín, Lewandowski, Benzema, Agüero, Ibrahimović, Suárez… they know how to play team football, but Cristiano… what is his goal? Goal, goal, goal, goal,” he commented on the podcast.

Italian Cassano wore white for a season and a half, between January 2006 and June 2007. He was always critical of CR7 and took the opportunity to criticize him once again.

“For the last three or four years at Madrid, CR7 was a centre forward. He has always been a left winger. Do you want to put him among these attackers? Those I have mentioned have something in common… Higuaín, Agüero, Lewandowski, Benzema, Ibrahimović and Luis Suárez, they all knew how to play with their teammate,” added Cassano.

To top it off, he asked him to retire: “A guy like Cristiano must love himself: if you can’t take it anymore, you have to close down. It’s a rule in all sports,” he said. And he ended by saying: “Retire, that’s it!”
