The victory against Mallorca leaves Atlético in third place in the table

A header from Antoine Griezmann in the 64th minute resolved Atlético de Madrid’s victory over Mallorca in the match between both at the Metropolitan stadium, on matchday 14 of La Liga.

Griezmann finished off Mario Hermoso’s cross perfectly and put the ball into Serbian Rajkovic’s net to untangle a duel that was becoming more complicated for Atlético, they were subduing Mallorca in the second act, with clear chances for Morata before the goal. After the goal, Mallorca stretched, made Atlético suffer and had chances to tie, especially one from the Senegalese Amath, who crossed the ball a lot against Oblak.

Griezmann is three goals away from equaling Luis Aragonés as Atlético’s all-time top scorer and Koke, who was replaced in the second half by Rodrigo de Paul, reached his 600th game with the red and white team’s shirt and was applauded by the fans.

After the victory, Atlético, which has one game less, stands with 31 points in the standings, the same as Barcelona and three behind the leader, Girona. Mallorca has nine points and is one step away from the red zone.
