Antofagasta will celebrate the Day of Music and Chilean Musicians with the musical circuit “Waki: Music Station”

The initiative will bring together various platforms that work with creators with the aim of strengthening and promoting local creation and dissemination, an opportunity that will allow bands and soloists to perform in various spaces in the Antofagasta commune, but also and especially in Taltal.

Around 50 local creators, including bands and soloists, will bring to life from October 1 to 5 “Waki: Music Station, second Music Circuit”, an initiative promoted by the Seremi of Cultures, Arts and Heritage together with the sound career of AIEP, Antofagasta headquarters, which will fill various cultural spaces with local music, mainly in the commune of Antofagasta, as part of the celebration of the Day of Music and Chilean Musicians.

The musical circuit seeks to promote the creation and dissemination of phonographic material with local identity created by musicians from the Antofagasta region in its different manifestations and genres, in addition to highlighting the figure of the spaces that disseminate the work of local music, with the aim of strengthening the articulation, management and associative work from the perspective of the regional music industry.

Waki’s activities will take place in different spaces and musical stations that will begin on Tuesday, October 1, at 11:00 a.m., on the terrace of AIEP, Antofagasta headquarters, with the Launching Station and Live Cooking, where the first musical presentations will be held that will be accompanied by live gastronomy, with the preparation of recipes based on the music that will be heard on the occasion, while at 6:00 p.m. in the Kamanchacos space, the Unplugged Station will take place.

The musical circuit will continue on Wednesday, October 2, at 8 p.m., at Bardos with the Rock Station, while on Friday, October 4, at the same time, the Station called Territorio will take place at Café del Sol.

To conclude Waki, the circuit will move in a special way to the Taltal commune, where in Odeón de la plaza, the local community will be able to enjoy the Taltal Station, an event in which 15 regional bands will perform.

Alicante Festival

On this occasion and as part of Waki, the IX version of the Alicanto Festival will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 6:00 p.m. at Atacama events, being the Alicanto Festival Station, an opportunity in which 5 bands and soloists will perform that were part of the training cycle of the Rock and Popular Music Schools program of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, who will seek to represent the region in the next version of the Rockódromo festival, one of the most important music festivals in the country, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will take place during December in the Valparaíso region.

According to the regional minister for Culture, Arts and Heritage, Claudio Lagos Gutiérrez, “today we are launching Waki, which means meeting, communion, union in Quechua, because we have thought that it is much more important, it gives much more relevance when we unite, come together, when we generate a musical circuit to celebrate Music Day, but also to be able to generate these spaces for the dissemination, meeting and projection of our local musicians.”

Following the Alicanto Festival, on the same day, Thursday, October 3, but from 8:30 p.m. in the same place, the Raíces Station will take place, where 5 bands will share their creations, one of the confirmed bands being the Antofagasta band Barrio Mestizo, who last year were selected to represent the region at Rockódromo.

“We have just had the great surprise of this news from Waki, which brings together several instances of musical creation, which will be from October 1st to 5th in the Antofagasta region, so support for creative musicians is very important, who are committed to making their own music with regional identity and territory, so we are very happy to be part of this great call and we invite you all because this is free to the community. There are 5 or 6 thematic spaces that you can see on social networks, where you can attend, there is one especially for rock, another a little more about folklore, popular music, so we cordially invite you as Barrio Mestizo, to participate in this beautiful week of Chilean music” said the bassist and director of the Antofagasta band Barrio Mestizo, Emerson Marambio.

Meanwhile, Gianinna Mutarello, vocalist and guitarist of the band Gianinna Mutarello Blues Band, highlighted the realization of Waki: Circuito Música. “I believe that these places and spaces are crucial to be able to value what is happening in the territory, since Antofagasta is a city super rich in creation, we are super far from the central area and that makes us special, so these opportunities where one can meet other creators and also show their work. They are also of vital importance to be able to position ourselves in other regions as well, creating ties between audiences and between creators in the region.”

Waki Platforms

It is worth noting that one of Waki’s premises is that it brings together all the links that are part of the local music industry, thus generating a large Music Network that strengthens the work carried out in the Antofagasta region around musicians, producers and all those who are part of the local musical ecosystem, as well as promoting local creation.

This is how Waki considers the participation of artists who have been part of 4 important platforms that work under this premise and that merge in this musical circuit, corresponding to the celebration of the day of Music and Chilean Musicians, the Alicanto Festival, Música Migrante and Anfofasuena.

In this regard, the sound engineer, teacher at the AIEP institute and manager of the Anfofasuena project, Francisco Burboa, added that “Antofasuena is an initiative financed and supported by the AIEP institute, which gets involved and mixes with the Waki circuit, through the bands that have participated in the different instances of Antofasuena, which is in its third version and we have a more or less important lineup of artists, which has allowed us to feed the Waki circuit lineup on this occasion.”

The complete program and the list of artists who will be part of Waki will be available on IG @culturas_antofagasta, Fanpage @culturas.antofagasta and X @Culturas_Afta.
