A wallpaper swing against the wall. That was almost the only experience that producer Antje and product developer Ruben had with odd jobs and renovations before they took part in Home made. But with flawless discipline and the eagerness to learn, they shifted up a gear to renovate their premises in Lokeren. Successfully.

“It was seven intensive months, with zero free time. Every Sunday we came home from the yard at 2 am, and we had to be back at our normal work by 8 am. The lack of sleep was especially important, and that was already expressed in emotional outbursts. I never thought I would cry on television, but that’s how you see it ”, says Ruben.

The intense project did strengthen their relationship. “It was already good. And now we have seen that we can perfectly estimate where the problems lie in the event of setbacks, without immediately blaming each other. ”

A game program – because that is what it will remain after all – with such a main bird, that is unseen. Even Jill, the winner of Big brother, had to make do with ‘only’ 70,000 euros, and that was already a big hit. But now a completely renovated house could be scored, including costs. “We suspect that the purchase price was around 220,000 euros and that the property now has a value of around 350,000 euros,” says Ruben.
That means: no longer pay a monthly amount of 1,000 euros or more for 20 to 25 years. As a result, your life will suddenly look very different. But extravagant purchases with the pennies they save the couple don’t plan. “We are misers in heart and soul. (laugh) So the money we have left will go into our savings account for our children later – although they are not there yet. Above all, it gives a warm, reassuring feeling that we can continue our lives carefree. Our parents are also relieved that we have that certainty. ”
In the meantime, Ruben and Antje have a taste for it. “Many people say we are crazy, but we would certainly like to renovate again. Although we will first live in Lokeren. We immediately received the key and hope to close the door of our apartment in Destelbergen behind us soon. ”
