Antiquities dating back more than two centuries have been discovered in the Uqdud region of Najran, Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: More than two centuries old artifacts have been found in the Uqdud region of Najran, Saudi Arabia. The researchers under the Saudi Heritage Commission found stone inscriptions and various forms from here. It is an area mentioned in the Quran and the Bible.

In the center of the city of Najran lies the ancient settlement of Uqdud. This section is currently under the archeology department. Pre-modern Islamic artefacts have also been found here. Cow’s head made of bronze metal, rings and stone inscriptions were recently discovered. The largest among these is an ancient stone inscription on granite stone. The inscription is written in the script used in South Arabia.

Gold rings with butterfly design. No such ornaments were found during the earlier inspection. This is the region that was ruled by Yemeni dynasties in ancient times. Various sizes of baked clay jars and different types of pottery were used before the 3rd century BC. These are abundant in this region.
