Antiques Road Trip presenter Izzie Balmer hid her disappointment behind an iPad as she stared at a vase she was selling which did not fare as well as auctioneers had hoped. In this daytime show, experts are given £200 to find unique items to auction off to try and make a profit. Izzie teamed up with Ishy Khan to hunt antiques in Nottingham.
While browsing the Donkey’s Years antiques center in Knaresborough, she was drawn to an Art Nouveau vase, which she thought was of the ‘Christopher Dresser’ style.
Christopher Dresser was a British designer and design theorist, widely recognized as one of the first and most important independent designers.
Although the item was priced at £75, she used her bartering skills to get it for the price of £60.
She explains why she bought it: “This type of item used to do well – it was very popular, that’s why I bought it.

“I was kind of hoping it was a Christopher Dresser model or something similar.
The auctioneer was also attracted to this model and listed it among his favorites.
They said, “The arts and crafts vase is one of my favorite bundles. I find it absolutely beautiful.
“I love the bamboo handles. I think it will generate a lot of interest. »
Despite their collective optimism, the sale got off to a bad start.
The first offer fell short of Izzie’s expectations, causing her to wince and hide behind her iPad.
She said, “I just hide until there is a benefit: ‘I hide until there is a benefit.’ »
Sadly, it didn’t earn her a penny, but she at least managed to break even by getting her £60 back.

Experts don’t keep the profits they make on the show as they go to Children in Need and sometimes they earn quite large sums.
In Episode 5 of Series 15, a rare antique camera bought for just £60 by Paul Laidlaw was sold for the extraordinary sum of £20,000.
Paul discovered it by chance while shopping for curiosities and collectables in Margate, Kent.
He closely examined a packaged optical instrument, which led him to believe it was an early subminiature camera.
Photography experts later confirmed that Paul’s find was one of the very few devices from Auguste Bertsch’s 19th century Automatic Chamber, i.e. a camera combined with a microscope .
Paul’s record profit shattered the previous show record.
In 2016, a bronze Tibetan deity bought for £50 by Anita Manning was sold for £3,800.
