Antillean Festivities cancelled: “Do not want a festival with tes… (Hoogstraten)

Hoogstraten –

The Antilliaanse Feesten in Minderhout (Hoogstraten) will not take place this year either. The organization announced this in a press release on Friday evening. It had previously been decided to let the festival continue in August as a smaller edition.

“Over the past 3 months we went from hurray, to doubt, and back again. On Monday we announced full of enthusiasm that we would continue. But the continuing uncertainty about validity of tests, rules for foreign visitors, closing time… forces us to make this decision. Believe us, it is very hard,” says the festival organization.

“The Antillean Festivities want to be a celebration of freedom and fraternization. It has been clear for a long time that we should give up a piece of this because of the covid measures. But we don’t want to be a festival with a test village,” it sounds. At the end of May it was decided to have the 38th edition from 12 to 14 August smaller under the name “Antiliaanse Feesten Piti”.

In addition, it was also announced this week that Jacob Desvarieux, the singer and founder of main act Kassav’, is in a coma in hospital with a covid infection. “We have discussed various lines of thought, but three weeks from the start of the festival we cannot deliver an alternative that meets the current measures,” it still sounds.
