The Cuban health authorities are now trying to maintain control of covid infections, for which they will apply booster doses to the population at risk and to people over the age of 70.

“A new booster dose of our vaccines will be applied in Cuba to the population at risk and to people over the age of 70, if six months have passed since the last application,” reported the Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB ). on the social network Twitter.

In addition, the institution underlined in another message, a booster dose will be administered to pregnant women who are in the last trimester of pregnancy.

“A booster dose with our Cuban vaccines will be applied to pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy who received the last vaccine six months earlier, as well as women who are still breastfeeding their babies. Abdala safe and very effective vaccine against Covid-19, specifies the message of the CIGB on the network of networks.

Recently, the CIGB confirmed that the Abdala anti-Covid-19 vaccine has demonstrated its safety and efficacy in fighting the pandemic.

The immunogen is well tolerated and has a low rate of mild adverse events: less than 0.07 per 100,000 people.

The Cuban Abdala vaccine is the first anti-Covid-19 immunogen in Latin America and the Caribbean.

As of July 2021, the injectable has been cleared for emergency use by the national regulatory body, after demonstrating 92.28% efficacy in preventing symptomatic disease and 90% efficacy in critically ill patients with by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Similarly, it showed a 99.15 percent increase in antibodies in volunteers aged three to 11 and 98.28 percent in those aged 12 to 18.

The CIGB, creator of the immunogen, confirmed that the increase in antibody titers was four times or more compared to the first dose of the drug in these population groups.

The principal investigator of the studies with this vaccine, Sonia Resik, once pointed out that more than 80% of the adverse events reported in children were mild, and the rest of the indicators were comparable to the data obtained in adults, a fact which confirmed their effectiveness.

The Abdala vaccine, on the other hand, maintains its safety, efficacy and immune response to Covid-19 over time, which confirms its suitability for booster doses.

Their immune response was higher in people already vaccinated with three injections of this drug and in others with Sinopharm (China) and Sputnik (Russia).

The Caribbean island also has the immunogens Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus, from the Finlay Vaccine Institute, to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and two candidate vaccines (Soberana 01 and Mambisa) in clinical trials with important results, according to official sources. .

Countries such as Venezuela, Nicaragua, Iran and Vietnam administer Cuban vaccines to their population.
