Anticipating Rice Price Increase, Cirebon Bulog Releases Rice to the Market

The rice distributed by the Cirebon Bulog to the market is a medium type rice

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON — Perum Bulog Cirebon Branch Office immediately poured rice into the market. This is intended to anticipate the high price of rice in the market, along with the high price of grain at the farm level.

Head of Perum Bulog Cirebon Branch Office, Budi Sultika, explained that the distributed rice Cirebon Bulog to the market it is a type of medium rice. The rice is packed in packs of five kilograms. The price is Rp 8,300 per kilogram.”For the highest retail price, Rp 9,450 per kilogram,” said Budi, Sunday (14/8/2022).

The amount of medium rice that they have prepared for distribution to the market is ten tons. Budi said that farmers in a number of areas had entered the gadu harvest period (dry). Although the harvest area is expanding, the price of grain has actually increased.

The price for harvested dry grain (GKP) at the farmer level is currently in the range of Rp 5,300 – Rp 5,500 per kilogram. In fact, there are also farmers who choose to save some of their harvest. They only sell grain little by little because of the long time span to the rendeng (rainy) planting season.

This condition is considered to have an impact on reducing the supply of rice in the market. As a result, it can trigger an increase in rice prices. For this reason, Bulog is releasing medium rice to the market. With the flushing, people are expected to be able to buy rice at affordable prices. On the other hand, the purchase of unhulled rice to farmers has been temporarily suspended due to the high price of unhulled rice. “Bulog is currently securing it from the consumer side. The supply to the market is secured by Bulog,” said Budi.

Budi said that the current stock of rice owned by Bulog Cirebon is sufficient until next year. The rice stock is spread across ten warehouses in the working area of the Cirebon Bulog. ”The total stock of rice we have is 95 thousand tons,” said Budi.
