Anticipating New Game Additions to Xbox Game Pass with Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Late last week, a report came out claiming that Microsoft would complete its acquisition of Activision Blizzard this week. Sure enough, if Activision Blizzard’s new post on the X is anything to go by, that seems to be happening soon.

Out of the blue, third-party (at least for a few more days) publishers have started talking about whether Diablo IV and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will come to Game Pass – and it looks like they will. While they did write that the pair likely won’t join this year, they will begin discussions with Microsoft about it when the deal is signed and expect to start adding games in 2024:

“While we have no plans to put Modern Warfare III or Diablo IV on Game Pass this year, once the deal closes, we hope to begin working with Xbox to bring our games to more players around the world. We We’re expected to start adding games to Game Pass sometime next year.

We may not get a few games until then, though well-known and trusted Windows Central editor Jez Corden, who has a strong track record on all things Xbox, added that his“Sources indicate (and surprisingly no one did) that despite Activision’s statement, you can expect to see a bunch of Activision stuff coming to Xbox Game Pass as soon as the deal closes..

Whether it starts later this year or starting in 2024, it’s clear that Game Pass subscribers will soon have access to more content that isn’t available on competing subscription services.
