Anticipating Dog Bite Incidents, Medan City Government Proposes Procurement of 1,000 Vials of Rabies Vaccine

Lia Pratiwi, the biological mother of M Reza Aulia, a 10-year-old boy who died after being bitten by a neighbor’s dog. Reza breathed his last after struggling with the effects of a dog bite that injured his thigh.

Lia said that her child’s health condition has continued to deteriorate since the dog was first bitten on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Her baby started to have a fever and was vomiting even though he had received first aid, he was given a tetanus shot when he was taken to the nearest midwife.

The next day, or Friday, June 11, 2021, Lia’s struggle to give the best for her child is getting more and more difficult. Lia admits that it is very difficult to get Rabies Vaccine in pharmacies, clinics and hospitals.

Meanwhile, the child’s condition related to dog bites was getting worse, because new symptoms, such as fever and diarrhea, arose. Lia had come to the Haji Adam Malik Central General Hospital (RSUP), but the rabies vaccine was empty.

“They told me to look for the Bestari clinic, Petisah. It turned out that it was empty there,” he said, Wednesday, June 16, 2021.
