Surabaya. Public Info – Measures against the danger of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in the rainy season, the Naval Academy (AAL) conducts spraying or fogging as an effort to prevent it.

To anticipate this, the Governor of AAL, Major General TNI (Mar) Nur Alamsyah, SE, MM, M.Tr (Han)., ordered the Sub-Directorate of Health, Ditpers AAL and his staff to carry out fogging of all messing buildings, classrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, offices. and other cadet support facilities.

So said the Head of Sub-Directorate of Health, Ditpers AAL Marine Lieutenant Colonel (K) dr. Bambang Hartono, Sp.Rad (K)., RI while accompanying his members to do fogging at the Mandalika Complex, Kesatrian AAL Bumimoro, Thursday (11/11/2021).

According to Bambang – the familiar name for the Head of Sub-Directorate of Health, Ditpers AAL – fogging is still considered and believed to be effective as an effort to overcome when an extraordinary event (KLB) or dengue outbreak occurs in an area.

That is when the adult mosquito population is high. Fogging rapidly reduces the mosquito population.

Fumigation, continued Bambang, is carried out as a method of controlling the factors causing dengue fever, namely the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Usually this activity is carried out using a machine that can emit smoke containing insecticides.

This insecticide will then work to kill adult mosquitoes that cause the spread of dengue fever. Usually, there are several types of insecticides used, including malathion, cypermethrin, alfacypermethrin, pirimiphos-methyl, temephos, and pyriproxyfen.

However, to meet the target, fogging must be carried out according to the rules. Fogging can only be done after coordination with the work unit or building occupants/users so that goods or equipment are secured prior to fumigation to avoid damage.

And to be safe, he added, this activity should be carried out when the Aedes aegypti mosquito is active, which is around 08.00-11.00 WIB and 14.00-17.00 WIB.

Unfortunately, eradication of adult mosquitoes through fogging is not effective enough as an overall effort to prevent dengue. Because mosquitoes still leave eggs and larvae or larvae.

To avoid mosquito resistance to insecticides and air pollution, this fogging action must be followed by other dengue prevention efforts so that the chain of spreading dengue fever is completely stopped. One of the efforts that can be done is with 3M Plus activities.

Namely, draining and cleaning the places that become water reservoirs, tightly closing the water reservoirs so they don’t become breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Then Recycling or utilizing used goods that have the potential to become mosquito breeding places, Plus are various other forms of prevention activities.

Such as using mosquito repellent, sprinkling larvicide powder in water reservoirs, using mosquito nets while sleeping and keeping fish that prey on mosquito larvae. (MC Diskominfo East Java Province/non-HJR/toeb)
