CINEMA – Explosions, castings of stars and big promotion: the summer of 2023 is placed under the sign of blockbusters in cinema. Almost every Wednesday in July and August, a new (or even several) American blockbuster hits theaters. Something to entertain you until the start of the school year and enjoy the cool weather for a few hours in dark rooms.
On the program: the series of anthology sagas (which sign for some the end), projects which exploded the marketing budget, acclaimed directors and directors behind the camera and a slew of Hollywood stars on the screen, as shown in the video at the top of the article.
Whether you’re more into action or animation, thriller or crazy comedy, there’s something for everyone. To help you choose, or distribute your cinema sessions, Le HuffPost listed the eight most anticipated blockbusters of the summer and their release dates.
1- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
The fifth and last part of the adventures of Indy will take you on a journey between eras. The famous archaeologist, helped by his goddaughter played by Phoebe-Waller Bridge, goes in search of a dial that would have the power to locate temporal fissures. Directed by James Mangold, Harrison Ford says goodbye to his cult role.
Indiana Jones 5 was released on Wednesday June 28, just in time for the Film Festival: from Sunday July 2 to Wednesday July 5, tickets are 5 euros in all theaters in France.
2- Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning, partie 1
Agent Ethan Hawk must find the key to a weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. During this race for the clock, Tom Cruise does a series of stunts all over the world, in a car or on a motorbike. Mission Impossible 7 comes out Wednesday, July 12.
3- Barbie
It is undoubtedly the film which benefited from the largest marketing budget. Impossible to miss the exit of Barbiewhich arrives on July 19 at the cinema, as the posters, derivative products and musical collaborations are everywhere.
On the synopsis side, we don’t know much except that the most famous doll will end up in the real world, that of humans. But one thing is certain: director Greta Gerwig has taken care of the aesthetics and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will make you see life in pink and in Barbie and Ken.
4- Oppenheimer
The other big release on Wednesday July 19 is diametrically opposed to Barbie. With OppenheimerChristopher Nolan signs an explosive film on the creation of the atomic bomb in the middle of the Cold War.
After Inception, Dunkirk and the trilogy The Dark Knight on Batman, Cillian Murphy reconnects with the director in this historical biopic. He plays the American physicist Robert Oppenheimer, nicknamed the “father of the atomic bomb”.
5- In (very) troubled waters
On Wednesday August 2, Jason Statham and his team of scientists will return to the big screen, ready to duke it out again with giant sharks in the sequel toIn troubled watersreleased in 2018. To complicate their task, the megalodons will this time be accompanied by T-rexs.
6- Grand Touring
The adaptation of the famous video game is inspired by a true story, that of the young British Jann Mardenborough who learned to drive on his sofa in front of his console before joining the professional circuits.
The film Grand Touring, which comes out on August 9, follows his training and selection at GT Academy, with Orlando Bloom as marketing manager and David Harbor as coach. The main role is held by Archie Uchena Madekwe.
7- Ninja Turtles : Teenage Years
Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello have to face an army of mutants in the streets of New York, where the famous turtles live hidden. This new Ninja Turtles adventure was written by Seth Rogen and promises to be packed with action and jokes.
Ninja Turtles Teenage Years comes out on August 9 and for the French version, Gérard Darmon, the journalist Anne-Claire Coudray, Sofiane Zermani or Audrey Lamy lent their voices to the characters.
8- Equalizer 3
five years later Equalizer 2, Denzel Washington comes to close the trilogy with a last film, which will be released on August 20th. Former secret agent Robert McCall is quietly enjoying the dolce vita in retirement in Italy. But the threat of the Italian mafia will quickly make him return to his role as a vigilante who is not afraid to kill.
