“Don’t Support the Murderer”, “Stop Funding Russian Aggression” — these are just one of the many slogans that hung on the walls of the Leroy Merlin store in Gdańsk.
Leroy Merlin, Auchan and Decathlon chain stores, belonging to the same holding, have not ceased operations in Russia due to the aggression of that country on Ukraine. The Polish representative of Leroy Merlin defends himself and claims that he has no influence on the decision of the French headquarters of the company.
The social media of stores was flooded with a wave of negative comments and posts calling for a boycott of these brands.
Everything indicates that the DIY store chain is not going to withdraw from Russia. It is quite the opposite — mid-week news service Ria Novosti wrote that Leroy Merlin is ready to expand the supply and range of goods in Russia. “[Serwis prasowy Leroy Merlin] confirmed that the company is still operating in Russiaand also noticed increased demand and the need for import substitution ” — we read in Ria Novosti.
In connection with these reports, a picket was held on Saturday at the Gdańsk Leroy Merlin point, calling for a boycott of the brand. A group of Tri-City residents hung photos of destroyed Ukrainian houses and a dozen or so anti-war slogans on the wall of the shop, including “Kremlin Merlin”, “Leroy Merlin spie *** laj z Polski”.
