Anti-Semitic work removed – but damage remains – SWR2

The damage to Documenta, the city of Kassel and the German art scene is great, says cultural journalist Maria Ossowski. The work of art by the Indonesian collective of artists Taring Padi, exhibited at the Documenta in Kassel in a central square in the city center, was first criticized as anti-Semitic, then covered up and now completely removed.

The managing director of the documenta, Sabine Schormann, should have seen all the images shown at the documenta in advance, says Maria Ossowski, who as the managing director has the responsibility: “Publishing anti-Semitic images is a criminal offense in Germany. It should have been avoided. ”

All those responsible should now ask for forgiveness and take a stand, asks Maria Ossowski. There is no need for a dialogue with the artists, whoever presents it does not need to talk about it. “We have to consider, in the context of our political and artistic responsibilities, how it is possible that such a thing will never happen again”, asks Ossowski.
