The slogans were sprayed on the wooden barracks with spray cans, in German and English. These include Holocaust denials and specific references to the Old Testament often cited by anti-Semites.
The texts were probably applied this morning; they were discovered this afternoon. The museum says the texts are being examined graphologically and is calling on witnesses to come forward. Once the police are done with the investigation, the slogans will be removed.
More than 1.1 million people, mostly Jews, died in Auschwitz-Birkenau during World War II. They were gassed or died of hunger, cold or disease.
