Riyadh: Anti-Israel passages have reportedly been removed from textbooks in Saudi Arabia. The move is seen as part of the restoration of ties with Israel. The information was released by the Israeli media.
The move is seen as part of a move to change the long-standing anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist sentiment in Saudi Arabia. Jared Kushnekar, a senior White House adviser, said yesterday that restoring relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel was imperative.
The textbooks excluded sections that said that there would be a great war between the Muslims and the Jews in which the Muslims would kill the Jews en masse. Texts on jihad are also excluded from the book.
Anti-Israel lessons were also taught under the title ‘Zionist Threat’. The lessons were that the Jews were Zionists and that the government was using drugs, women and money. The textbooks also said that Israel was established illegally in the Middle East.
The number of anti-Israel textbooks in 2020 has decreased compared to 2002 textbooks. At the same time, education experts say anti-Israel elements have not been completely eliminated.
