In addition to the Honiara Chinatown area, the downtown area was also the point of anti-Beijing riots.
“At least 100 Chinese nationals in the Solomon Islands have expressed their wish to be evacuated,” Tan Jingquan, secretary of the Solomon Islands China Association, told reporters. Global Times, Friday (11/26/2021).

According to the association’s data, there are about 3,000 Chinese citizens living and working in the Solomon Islands.
Meanwhile, Australian police forces have arrived in Honiara at the request of the government of Prime Minister (PM) Manasseh Sogavare to assist local police efforts to restore law and order.
PM Sogvare said the anti-China riots were instigated by foreigners. In an interview with a news channel ABC Australia, he declined to name the countries he suspects were behind the unrest.
“We know who they are,” he said without elaborating on any suspected parties or countries.
Sogavare insisted the only real issue causing the chaotic scene since Thursday was the Solomon Islands’ closer ties to China. He dismissed as tangential all other complaints, such as the alleged failure of the central government to provide infrastructure to the region, demanded by the protesters, most of whom are from Malaita province.
