Anthony Weiner fails in New York’s mayoral election

New York – Anthony Weiner asked New Yorkers for a second chance. After his sex scandals, he wanted to become mayor of the metropolis. In the primaries he failed spectacularly.

After counting 97 percent of the votes, Weiner finished last of the five Democratic candidates in the Democratic primary election and is therefore no longer allowed to run for the final mayoral election in November.

According to the latest projections, Weiner came to just five percent. In a speech to supporters, he admitted his defeat. He said: “We had the best ideas, but unfortunately I wasn’t the perfect ambassador.”

Perhaps to underpin this sentence, Weiner made a special gesture after his speech. A photo is circulating on Twitter and in the American media that Weiner is supposed to show after his appearance. In the picture, the politician shows a reporter the middle finger.

Weiner was forced to resign as a congressman two years ago after posting nude photos of himself on Twitter. The candidacy for the mayor’s office should be his comeback, but in July he had to admit another “sexting” affair, it was about online chats and phone sex with a 22-year-old and emailed nude photos.

The primary elections for the mayoral election were won by the former head of the New York City Transport Authority, Joseph Lhota, and by the current ombudsman for the metropolis, Bill de Blasio, for the Democrats. Whether de Blasio will have to compete with second-placed William Thompson in a runoff election will only be revealed after all votes have been counted due to the narrow result.

In addition to Weiner, another scandal politician was thrown out of the running in the area code: Eliot Spitzer, who resigned from his position as New York governor in 2008 because of a prostitute affair, wanted to become the top auditor, but could not collect enough votes. Instead, his rival candidate Scott Stringer, currently the District Mayor of Manhattan, will run as the Democratic candidate for office in November.
