Anthony Sinisuka Ginting Absent from Badminton World Championships 2023 Due to Mourning – Indonesian Badminton Team Departs for Copenhagen

Jakarta

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will not take part of Badminton World Championships 2023 which starts next week. The mainstay of the Red and White men’s singles is still in mourning after the death of his mother.

The Indonesian badminton team is scheduled to leave for Copenhagen, Denmark on Thursday (17/8/2023) evening. The news of Anthony’s absence from the group was conveyed directly by the men’s singles coach, Irwansyah.

“Ginting cannot appear at the World Championships because he is still in a state of mourning over the passing of his beloved mother,” Irwansyah said in a written statement.

Previously, Indonesia planned to send 15 representatives, with three of them coming from the male-only sector. With Anthony absent, the men’s singles sector only consisted of Jonatan Christie and Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.

The departure of the Indonesian badminton team for the 2023 Badminton World Championships is divided into two groups.

The first flight group left the country from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, Banten on Thursday (17/8) with Turkish Airlines flight number TK 57 flying at 21.00 WIB. While the second group followed by Emirates airline EK 359 departing Friday (18/7) at 00.40 WIB.

Head of the PBSI Achievement Development division Rionny Mainaky said that all the players who left for Copenhagen were in good condition and healthy.

“By carrying the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian badminton team tonight is leaving to take part in the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark,” said Rionny.

“Please pray and support from badminton lovers, hopefully this team can perform optimally and win the title,” he said.
