Anthony Rapp, who accused Kevin Spacey of sexual harassment: I felt like a deer under the headlights

Rapp testified in Manhattan federal court that he was able to “get out” of Spacey. But the experience broke his “sense of belonging” to the theatrical community.

“I was a 14-year-old boy and had no desire to have that kind of experience in my life,” says Rapp, now 50. “It was incredibly scary, very disturbing, and completely unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.”

Kevin Spacey, now 63, denies Rapp’s allegations, as well as other allegations of sexual misconduct. In his opening statement Thursday, Spacey’s attorney said Rapp made up the incident to try to boost publicity for him because he was jealous of Spacey’s successful acting career. He pointed out that Anthony Rapp’s accusation was the result of his inability to distinguish between real life and a theatrical stage. The description of the incident is very reminiscent of an excerpt from a play in which Rapp participated.

Spacey’s defense is expected to question Rapp when the trial resumes Tuesday.

Rapp starred in the Broadway musical Rent.

Spacey is the winner of two Oscars: Best Actor in “American Beauty” and Best Supporting Actor in “The Usual Suspects”. However, his career suffered a lot after more than 20 men accused him of sexual assault.

Netflix ditched him from the political drama series House of Cards and Christopher Plummer replaced him as Paul Getty in All the Money in the World weeks before the film’s scheduled release.

Kevin Spacey will also face a criminal trial in London next year on five sex offender charges for alleged assaults between 2005 and 2013. He has claimed his innocence.

From 2003 to 2015 Kevin Spacey was the artistic director of the Old Vic theater in London.
