Former Chargers head coach would join Detroit coach Dan Campbell’s assistant corps
The head coach of the Detroit LionsDan Campbell knew he wanted to gain some experience around him in his corps of assistants and this Saturday he did, hiring former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn as the team’s offensive coordinatorsources told Dan Graziano of ESPN.
Anthony LynnThe 52-year-old had been with the Chargers from 2017 to 2020 with a 33-31 record. Before that, he was the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator for one season, in 2016.
He and Campbell also know each other. Anthony Lynn He was a running back coach with the Dallas Cowboys in 2005 when Campbell was a tight end on the team.
“What’s more important than anything to me as an offensive coordinator is someone who I think has a vision of offense like mine,” Campbell said Thursday. “In the sense of, ‘I’m not going to be obsessed with what you want to call the terminology. I’m not going to be obsessed with what style of system I want to implement.’
“I’m more of, ‘Show me what are the aspects of what you believe.’
One thing Campbell highlighted in his introductory press conference is making sure whoever his coordinators are – the team officially announced Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator this Saturday – can identify and exploit favorable matches.
In Buffalo in 2016, Anthony Lynn he had the best running attack in the NFL, averaging 164.4 yards per game and 5.35 yards per carry with LeSean McCoy as his leading running back. Anthony Lynn will likely work with a new quarterback in 2021, too, since Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Matthew Stafford has requested a trade, the only team he has played for in his professional career after being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft.
