The famous Grammy-nominated electronic music group M83 will perform at the Dubai Opera Theater next June 15, including favorite pieces of its most famous lyrical works, such as Midnight City, Wait, and Reunion, in a live concert on the main stage.
The M83 is the musical vision of French musician, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, Anthony Gonzalez, who discovered his passion for music when he received his first guitar after a leg injury in his teens made him unable to continue playing football and changed his life. . Together with his friend Nicola Fromango, Gonzalez formed their first band, called My Violent Wish, recorded their first demo album and signed a contract with Gooom Records, which paved the way for the birth of M83.
In 2003, the band released their second album, Dead Cities Red Seas & Lost Ghost, which marked the beginning of a new era in the history of French music. The duo won critical acclaim with their new take on electronic music. By fusing synth-pop melodies with shoegaze, a subgenre of indie and alternative rock, the M83 transformed the sound of electronic music from mere instrumental beats to tracks of nostalgia and emotion.
As the only constant member of M83, Gonzalez continued to produce major albums under this name, which came mostly solo, and provided support for several international creative acts, such as Kings of Leon, The Killers, Depeche Mode and others. During its concert tours around the world, the band achieved great global success after its famous platinum CD of Hurry Up We’re Dreaming achieved great sales. The band’s tours at the Hollywood Bowl, Brixton Academy and others were very popular.
More than two decades after its inception, the M83 continues to influence generations of artists, musicians and soundtrack films, such as Oblivion starring Tom Cruise, Black Haven by French director Gilles Marchand, as well as the music of the famous Cirque du Soleil show entitled Volta. The band also provided the soundtrack for the most famous works and cinematic films, conveying to the viewers different feelings of life, whether it was celebrating the greatest victories, or the darkest and most heartbreaking defeats.
Anthony Gonzalez, lead singer of the band, said: “I am thrilled to be on stage in Dubai this summer. It’s been a long time since my last visit to this wonderful city, and I have no doubt that this party will be special, memorable, and most of all, very fun. I am really looking forward to meeting our fans in the region and I hope we will gain their support and appreciation for our music.”
