Anthony Ginting’s Confidence Begins Again

Jakarta

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting said his confidence had returned. It was marked by today’s victory at Indonesia Masters 2022.

Ginting passed his first match at the 2022 Indonesia Masters well. Even though he was almost overtaken in the deciding game, the 2020 Olympic bronze winner finally managed to steal victory from Kunlavut Vitidsarn.

Ginting won with a score of 16-21, 21-16, 21-18 in the round of 32 which took place at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Wednesday (8/6/2022). Ginting took 1 hour 14 minutes to finish off Vitidsarn’s resistance.

For this fourth seed, being able to win in the first round of the match is a good start to look at the next match with more confidence. Moreover, previously he had experienced a crisis of confidence due to the series of defeats he had experienced. Most recently at the 2022 Thomas Cup, Ginting lost four times, three times in the group stage and once in the final.

“Maybe some of the matches from the end of last year to the beginning of this year were not good. Not only the results but the performance on the field was also not good,” said Ginting.

“It’s just that I keep trying. I mean, I keep trying to find out what the turning point is, how it should be, and what the process will be like.”

“I am grateful that I have the opportunity to learn again and actually started to get a rhythm and confidence in the Thomas Cup yesterday began to exist.”

“Moreover, I’m grateful that I have a team that continues to support me. When I was struggling in the group stage (at the Thomas Cup), even though I lost, the most important thing was when I chatted with Koh Hendra (Setiawan). He said it’s okay to keep trying Just until you find (the pattern), keep the spirit, keep going, keep trying.”

“So, that’s also a reminder for me, yes, it’s okay, I mean everyone has time. The most important thing is that we can’t give up. Hopefully with this opportunity, Praise God we can win today, tomorrow we can give our best again,” he said.

Not only increasing his confidence, Ginting also managed to improve his meeting record against Vitidsarn from 1-2 to 2-2.

“Yes, I am grateful for being able to finish the match well without any injuries. Today’s match was quite tight from start to finish,” he said.

In the round of 16 Indonesia Masters 2022, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will again meet the representative of Thailand, Sitthikom Thammasin. This match will be the third meeting with Ginting winning two wins.

“Obviously, after this, focus on recovery until tomorrow morning. There will also be a discussion with the coach about potential opponents because this match almost everyone knows about other candidates. Mostly look for strengths and weaknesses so on the field it’s more about player strategy. So focus on yourself first, then evaluate with the coach,” he said about the preparation for the next match.
