Anthony Davis is hoping to make a comeback for the Los Angeles Lakers later this season. However, there is still no precise schedule for the superstar.
Davis first spoke publicly on Sunday about the foot injury that has kept him out of the Lakers lineup since February 16. “I’m very optimistic,” Davis said of a return soon. However, he is not 100 percent sure that it will work out this season.
Davis was injured in the game against the Utah Jazz when he landed on Rudy Gobert’s foot and twisted his ankle. The 29-year-old said he has not watched the action until today. “I heard a crack,” Davis recalled. “I looked down and couldn’t move my foot. I just thought, ‘Please don’t break it.'”
According to the Lakers, it’s a metatarsal sprain. In the nine games since Davis’ injury, the Lakers are now at a 2-7 record, winning only the two games in which LeBron James has 56 and 50 points respectively. LA also had no chance against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.
LeBron on Davis: “Not the solution to all problems”
“It puts a bandaid on some things,” James said of Davis’ possible return. “But we just didn’t have enough chemistry, not enough time to figure out who we are and what we can become. […] AD definitely helps, but it’s not the solution to all of our problems.”
The Lakers are currently fighting for participation in the play-in tournament, as in the previous season, the season is disappointing. Back then, the Lakers were eliminated by the Suns in the first round of the playoffs, which Davis claimed was also due to injuries. “I think we know, and I think they do too. I feel like they got away with this show,” Davis said.
The Lakers had led the series 2-1 before Davis injured his groin, after which Phoenix won all three games and marched through to the finals. Phoenix’ star guard Chris Paul was also very limited in the series due to a shoulder injury.
