Anthem: BioWare announces fundamental revision

Almost exactly a year ago, Anthem saw the light of day with great expectations, but as a result, there was above all a lot of criticism. After the sci-fi franchise was quiet recently, BioWare has now revealed how to proceed.

BioWare has delivered so many top hits in the past that it seemed like a foregone conclusion that that too Anthem will mutate to success. Finally, the sci-fi game started with several advance laurels, but in the end the title didn’t do it justice.

Shortly after the release, criticism came from all sides. Most of all, players complained about the lack of content, the weak loot progress system and the lack of certain endgame content. As a result, BioWare improved, published various updates and additional content, but the flaw of the rather floppy game remained. This was one of the reasons why Anthem had become quiet recently, but that has now changed.

In an entry on the official blog, General Manager Casey Hudson now confirmed that Anthem is now actually going to be fundamentally revised and consequently further developed. Interested parties will have an Anthem 2.0 in the medium term, which will have fundamental differences from the previous title.

“Over the past year, the team has worked hard to improve stability, performance, and overall quality, while delivering three seasons of new content and features,” said Hudson. “However, we found that there is still a lot of basic work to do to unlock the full potential of the gaming experience. It will take a substantial restart, not just an update or upgrade.”

And further: “In the coming months we will focus on creating a longer term redesign of the experience. We will work specifically on reinventing the gameplay itself, with clear goals, motivating challenges and a progress system with meaningful rewards. “

At the same time, however, the fun elements such as flying or fighting in the science fiction setting should also be retained, Hudson continues. To ensure that everything works out this time, the development team should also be given sufficient time to test the changes extensively.

The current version will remain available until Anthem 2.0 starts, but there will not be any completely new seasons until now because the team is otherwise busy. However, the players should be kept in line with events, innovations in the store and seasonal content from past days, which will celebrate a comeback, for example. The upcoming fundamental revision will also focus on one thing in particular: feedback from the fans.
