event information
The “Antanzen” format of the Rhein Main dance platform, already popular in Darmstadt and Wiesbaden, celebrates a small premiere by taking place for the first time in the Mousonturm. Starting in January 2023, new forms of movement will be presented every two months. The goal is to try new dance styles and learn more about their history and origins.
Choreographers and dance teachers from the great independent scene of contemporary dance are invited to this; be it contemporary dance, voguing and whacking, opera, house, popping and locking or ballet. We want the full range of urban dancing society to be found here.
The first and second dates focus on voguing, a dance style that originated in Harlem, New York in the early 1970s. Outcasts from mainstream white and straight society, blacks and Latinos from the LGBTIQ+ community gathered in so-called ballrooms, spaces where they could feel safe, formed surrogate families (so-called “houses”), danced and performed playfully with and against each other.
