The organs of a girl who died at the age of 13 in Antalya and donated by her family have given hope to patients waiting for an organ transplant in the new year.
Zeynep Sükeyna Fidancı, a resident of Antalya, passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest. The girl’s grieving family decided to donate her daughter’s organs after meeting Uğur Genç, the coordinator of the Organ Transplant Center at Akdeniz University Hospital. Then, the heart and lungs taken from Fidancı in the last hours of 2022 were sent to Ankara by Ministry of Health air ambulance to be transferred to patients whose transplant was deemed suitable.
According to AA news; It was decided that Fidancı’s two kidneys, liver and corneas would be transplanted to patients awaiting transplant at Akdeniz University Hospital.
COMPETITION WITH TIME
In the early hours of the new year for organ transplants in Antalya, Akdeniz University Organ Transplant Center teams; center director Prof. Dr. Bülent Aydınlı and the surgeons Prof. Dr. İsmail Demiryılmaz, prof. Dr. Abdullah Kısaoğlu and lecturer Dr. He competed with time in operations directed by Ali Avanaz.
One of Fidancı’s kidneys was transplanted to a 6-year-old boy from Konya and the other to a 16-year-old boy from Gaziantep.
The liver was transplanted to an 11-year-old boy. The light was given to two patients who could not see their corneas.
SUCCESS OF THE ‘DOMINOS TRANSPLANT’
The Director of the Organ Transplant Center of Akdeniz University, prof. Dr. Bülent Aydınlı, in his statement, said that the exemplary behavior of the Fidancı family was instrumental for patients waiting for organ transplants to enter the new year with hope.
Stating that the liver taken from an 11-year-old boy with MSUD (Maple Syrup Urine Disease), a kind of genetic disease in which the deceased child’s liver is transplanted, was transplanted to a 61-year-old cancer patient, Aydınlı said , “This is called a ‘domino transplant.’ It was successfully performed at Akdeniz University Hospital. The exemplary behavior of our generous family has given us hope for the future of organ donation.” he said she.
Aydınlı noted that he performed 213 kidney and 54 liver transplants at Akdeniz University Hospital in 2022.
Organ Transplant Prof. Dr. İsmail Demiryılmaz also said that the decision of the deceased child’s family to donate organs was very significant.
Expressing the hope of many patients who are waiting for an organ, Demiryılmaz said, “May Allah be pleased with our family. They have given hope to many patients by donating their daughters’ organs. In the last hours of 2022 and in the early hours of the new year , we are working for the recovery of patients awaiting organ transplantation. I wish all our patients to be of benefit.” he said.
