Edwards enjoys playing table tennis against his American teammates, and on one of the basketball team’s days off last week, he was spotted cheering on fellow American Olympian Lily Zhang during her table tennis singles match.
“I get to play alongside the greatest players of all time. And I get to go watch some ping-pong,” Edwards said. “I think the championship rounds are on (Sunday), if I’m not mistaken. I hope so. I’ll be there if they are.”

In the quarter-finals, Edwards said everyone was focused on not succumbing to the fate of last year’s World Cup team, which lost in the semi-finals to eventual champions Germany and then to Canada in the third-place match.
“It’s the round of 16. All the teams that are in it are very good teams,” he said. “They have NBA players and they play at a high level. It’s supposed to be tough.”
