The ANSP leadership had a working meeting with the CDC delegation for Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The management of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP), represented by the director of the institution, Nicolae Jelamschi, together with heads of departments and departments, had a working meeting with the members of the delegation of the Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of Diseases (CDC) for Europe from East and Central Asia.

During the discussions, topics related to the surveillance of communicable diseases, the immunization process of the population, the response capacities to public health emergencies, the strengthening of the field of laboratory diagnostics and opportunities to strengthen the capacities in the surveillance of other infections were addressed.

The ANSP team presented to the experts the activities carried out and those in progress, including thanks to the collaboration with the CDC, to strengthen the surveillance capacities of transmissible infections, such as viral respiratory infections and influenza.

The delegation, led by the regional director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Charles Vitek, visited the Virological Laboratory of the ANSP with all departments (classical virology – isolation of viruses in cell cultures; investigations by molecular biology techniques; serological – ELISA and sequencing the genome). The experts noted the way of organizing the activity and its structure, being appreciated the performances achieved in the implementation of the new methods and advanced technologies, which ensure the quality of the laboratory diagnosis and the release of the results in the decreed terms.

We mention that the Virological Laboratory is a component part of the European Network of laboratories in the diagnosis of poliomyelitis, influenza, measles and rubella and is accredited annually by the specialized specialists of the WHO, and on February 27, 2023 it obtained accreditation from the National Accreditation Center MOLDAC in accordance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 15189.

CDC representatives expressed their readiness for continued collaboration and the prospect of providing support in the areas highlighted during the meeting.
