PSV and FC Twente will meet in the second round of the battle for the KNVB Cup, as Saturday evening’s draw showed. Feyenoord receives FC Utrecht in De Kuip and Ajax, like AZ, visits an amateur club.
The Amsterdam team heads to Utrecht for a match against third divisionist Hercules. AZ goes to Hardenberg for a meeting with the number four of the second division, HHC. The club from Overijssel was surprisingly too strong for Eredivisie player Heracles Almelo in the first round with a 2-0 score.
The sixteen matches of the second cup round will be played on December 19, 20 and 21. The exact schedule will follow. PSV, Feyenoord, Ajax, FC Twente and AZ were free in the first round because they are or were active in Europe this season.
A total of 33 clubs were in the pipeline, of which Excelsior Maassluis and FC Volendam still have to compete against each other. That match was previously postponed because Ajax and Volendam had a catch-up match last week. The catch-up game against Excelsior Maassluis is scheduled for November 16.
