Anouk and Dominique: A Love Story Despite Family Feud – Exclusive Interview with ‘Flair’

After a number of failed relationships, Anouk was alone for a while when she met Dominique. “I was not the perfect picture of course, I am almost twenty years older and also had a baby.” She was afraid to open herself up again and decided to take it slow. She wanted to avoid scaring Dominique with her family situation and was therefore honest from the start. “I didn’t make it more beautiful than it was. I said: think carefully before you get in here.”

But Dominique was sure of his love for Anouk and brought her home. “My father liked it, but my mother – with whom I have a very good relationship – found it difficult.” His mother was afraid that Dominique did not really know what he was getting into, since Anouk had already had several relationships and this was only Dominique’s second serious relationship. “A woman who has already had several men, with children too. Do you know what you are getting into?” she asked Dominique.

According to Anouk, she even called her a ‘maneater’. However, she understands where her reaction came from at the time. “I don’t know how I would react if my son showed up with such a woman,” she says. This time was very difficult for Dominique, because he was previously very close to his mother.

After the birth of their daughter Jelizah, the bond between mother and son was restored. “She saw that I was serious and not just messing around,” says Dominique. Anouk largely took care of that reunion. “I still remember well how I sent you to your mother with the Maxi-Cosi in the car. Like: and now you show your child and it’s done.”

Fortunately, the family feud is no longer an issue and they even regularly have soup days together. “Then my mother makes soup and we play games. And that’s a lot of fun,” Dominique explains. Anouk can also say that she loves her mother-in-law. “It all worked out in the end.”
