Another Wet Weekend: Rain Returns to New York City

I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but the rain is back for another weekend.

Rain showers reappeared in the New York City area early Friday and are expected to remain intermittent from the morning commute onward. The rest of the day there will be periods of rain and some thunder during the night. Heavier rain is also possible at night.

Showers will continue early Saturday, although the rain may end sooner than initially expected. There might even be some sunshine already at midday. And while the rain may end before the end of Saturday, which is an improvement over previous forecasts, the day still looks wet, at least in part.

The current forecast for Saturday’s rain does not appear to bring any threat of flooding, with an inch of rain or less expected for much of the tri-state area. The return of rain, however, marks the seventh consecutive wet weekend for the area.

When Sunday arrives, the air is gusty and colder. Those gusts could reach up to 30 mph.

The coldest morning of the season is forecast next week, with lows reaching 40 degrees in the city on Tuesday. If we see temperatures below 42, it will be the lowest since April 9. But the drop in temperature is brief, and both highs and lows move closer to average for the rest of the week.
