Staycation is the norm this summer. Out of necessity. But no problem, if the weather is just as bright as it was in July and August last year. Only, soon we will be mid-July and the weather will have done little more than quail. These are the predictions for the coming week: from eighteen degrees past nineteen to seventeen degrees. With strong wind and lots of rain. For dessert, a dry weekend with twenty degrees.
“Well,” says weatherman Frank Deboosere. “It’s not too hot, is it. But still, this is typical Belgian summer weather, with that breeze and the occasional rain shower. And look on the bright side: when it is dry and clear, it is ideal walking weather. Do not rush to say that summer is already wasted. We might as well be chugging again at the end of the month. ”
Heat record
Remember the summer of 2019. It is known as the summer of three heat waves and a new heat record. On July 25, it was 41.8 degrees Celsius in Begijnendijk. What has lingered less in the collective memory is that it was also on the fresh side in the first half of July last year. The average temperature was a degree below the normal value at 17.4 degrees.
“People who hope for a lot of sun and heat should certainly not despair yet,” says Deboosere. “They will certainly get their money’s worth this summer. Incidentally, there are also many, including myself, who do not please you with thirty degrees every day. They love the weather as it is now. ”
