Actually, a Dresdner (48) should answer in front of the regional court for sexual abuse of children from Wednesday.
But it did not come to trial.
On Monday, the man who had been in custody there since September 2020 was dead in his solitary cell on Hammerweg.

“We have initiated a death investigation,” confirms Chief Public Prosecutor Lorenz Haase (61). “This includes that an autopsy has been ordered.”

Because it is still unclear how exactly the inmate died. According to TAG24 information, he had secretly collected sleeping pills to kill himself with.
It was only on Friday last week that the Dresden prison staff made a gruesome discovery.
A Russian prisoner (51) lay dead in his cell.

He was serving a replacement custodial sentence for coercion because he could not pay the fine. Thereafter, custody was ordered for him. Also for sexual abuse. Here, too, the public prosecutor is investigating.

“According to current psychological and medical assessments, there was no acute risk of suicide in either of the prisoners at this time,” said the director of the facility, Rebecca Stange (40).
A dedicated working group on suicide prophylaxis trains employees on a regular basis to assess the dangers of the prisoners.
So far it has worked. There has been no suicide in the Dresden JVA in the past three years. There was only one dead behind bars in Saxony in 2020.
This year was different: in February an inmate died in Waldheim, in May in Leipzig. Last week, a woman who had just been arrested strangled herself in the jail of Chemnitz and now there were two dead in Dresden.
Usually TAG24 does not report suicides and attempted suicides. However, since the incidents are part of a public court process, the editorial team decided to address them.
