Another smart zebra was handed over in Dunakeszin – Dunakanyar Region

As a result of the joint effort of the city government and Generali Biztosító Zrt., a new smart zebra was handed over to Dunakesz, which was put into operation on the heavily trafficked Kossuth Lajos út on the road section between Tóváros and the Toldi-Dombliget residential park.

– One of the most important issues in Dunakeszin is the continuous optimization of safe and well-organized traffic for the safety of pedestrians and motorists. The municipality seizes every opportunity to achieve traffic safety goals. We are very grateful to Generali Biztosító Zrt. that we are now able to hand over the second smart zebra thanks to the support they won in the tender they announced – said Mayor Csaba Dióssi when handing over the smart zebra.

Mayor Csaba Dióssi: the public’s traffic safety is extremely important to the municipality

Emphasizing the practical significance of the smart zebra built by the joint cooperation of the municipality and the insurance company, the city manager emphasized: it is an extremely practical technical solution, which, especially at night, signals to motorists from afar that a pedestrian is crossing the zebra crossing.

– The device that emits flashing light helps prevent accidents, pedestrians and cyclists can safely cross the zebra crossing. The first jointly built smart zebra was put into operation next to the City Hall, on the high-traffic main road No. 2, thanks to which fortunately there have been no accidents since then, where there was a regrettable fatal run-over before – explained Csaba Dióssi.

The state-maintained Kossuth Lajos út carries two-way traffic – from Fót and the M0 – and there are residential parks on both sides of the road. The construction of the smart zebra crossing made it safe for pedestrians to cross between the two residential parks.

Mayor Csaba Dióssi told the question of the Dunakanyar Region that if there is another tender, the municipality will start again, because they consider the traffic safety of the people living in Dunakesz to be extremely important.

The smart zebra was tested by Mayor Csaba Dióssi and Mihály Erdős, President and CEO of Generali Biztosító Zrt.

Mihály Erdős, the president and CEO of Generali Biztosító Zrt., was present at the handover.

– We are convinced that as one of Hungary’s leading companies, we have responsibilities beyond our daily business operations. It is important that we provide help to both our customers and the public in the area we deal with, and that is reducing risks. As the mayor said, such a development can achieve spectacular results for the public benefit. We are happy to support all such initiatives.

Among the priority goals of the Generali a Beszágátért Foundation are making traffic safer, preventing accidents, and protecting cyclists and pedestrians. Although zebra crossings were created to allow pedestrians to cross safely, accidents often occur here. According to data from the National Police Headquarters, nearly 1,000 people are run over at pedestrian crossings every year. Since the start of the program, the foundation has supported the construction of 55 smart zebras across the country in the amount of HUF 100 million. According to our measurements, the willingness of motorists to stop increases significantly even within a few weeks after the installation of the smart zebra. I am glad that from now on we can offer increased protection to pedestrians crossing here at the pedestrian crossing at Kossuth Lajos Street, at this busy road section, near the Szent Erzsébet Óvoda and the two residential parks – said Mihály Erdős, president and CEO of the founding Generali Biztosító.
