The general national vaccination rate has again increased slightly, after an increase was recorded for the first time in five years last year. This is what State Secretary Paul Blokhuis of Health, Welfare and Sport writes in a letter to Parliament on Thursday. The State Secretary calls it “particularly positive” that, despite the Coona pandemic, the National Vaccination Program “continued as much as possible”.
At least 93 percent of all children up to the age of 2 have had all vaccinations for their age group. That was 90.8 percent a year earlier. The largest increase among young children was seen in the vaccination against hepatitis B and DKTP (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus and polio).
Blokhuis also reports a new increase among 14-year-old girls who have been vaccinated against HPV. Where the State Secretary reported a 53 percent vaccination rate in this category last year, it is 63 percent this year. Because women can still get the HPV shot at a later age, the total vaccination rate for this vaccine is 68 percent.
In 2020, fewer people will contract an infectious disease that is vaccinated against in the National Vaccination Program, but according to Blokhuis, it is also due to the corona measures.
