Sciensano reports that for the third day in a row there has been an increase in the number of infections. Virologist Marc Van Ranst also counts the two days in which a very slight increase was noted and says in The morning on Radio 1 that there is an increase in the numbers today for the fifth day in a row.
From July 3-9, there were an average of 90 cases per day compared to 88 the week before. The increase mainly occurred in the province of Antwerp, in Brussels and in the south of West Flanders.
For several weeks, Sciensano has no longer published any data on the number of hospital admissions and deaths on Sunday and Monday. Our country now has a total of 62,707 confirmed infections. In the past two weeks, there have been an average of 10.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
“We’ve been lulled to sleep a little bit because of the small rises, but when you add it up you see that the numbers are going up,” said Van Ranst. “Fortunately, there have been no increases in the number of hospital admissions yet, but that will eventually be the case,” he said.
According to the virologist, less attention is paid to the corona measures. “We’ll pay a price for that.”
