Ferrari has brought a new update to France after problems were discovered with the clutches. The Italian racing stable wants to ensure that Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have better starts with improved clutches. The update will also be introduced to Alfa Romeo and Haas, much to the delight of the teams’ drivers.
“We discovered a problem that prevented us from achieving the starts we had last year,” Sainz said. Motorsport.com. ‘That probably also affects our engines. We know where the problem is. We keep it very private and we don’t talk much about it because it’s not like we fall far back at every start. We simply haven’t had the best possible starts. Hopefully we’ll keep improving that.’
Update for technical detail
Opposite Motorsport.com A Ferrari spokesperson has said that it is not a completely new design, but a technical detail that has been updated. It is not yet clear which drivers will be in action this weekend with the improved clutches. It is an important update especially for the Alfa Romeo team, as the team did not have the best starts this season.
This has resulted in enthusiastic reactions, for example from Valtteri Bottas: ‘We are going to use it for the first time in free practice. Ferrari has been working on this for a while. Now it’s finally here. This should remedy the vibrations in the clutch that we are experiencing. On average we lost places at the start. That’s not pretty. In the midfield everyone is so close together that you can get stuck twenty laps behind someone. That doesn’t make your life any easier. So hopefully it’s good now,” Bottas concluded.
