A shiny four-meter pole suddenly appeared in Romania on Thursday. It recalls the recent mystery of the Utah monolith, which also appeared unknown from where and also mysteriously disappeared on Friday.

The Romanian authorities are confused by the strange discovery, as are the American ones. “We have only just begun to investigate where the monolith comes from,” Officer Roxana Josanu told the British media last week.

“The monolith appeared on private property, but we still have no idea who it belongs to,” Josanu admitted. The strange object is located in a protected area near the archeological site. In order for someone to put a similar monolith in place, the person in question would need proper permission. But no one asked for any.

Before the authorities could explain the situation, the monolith disappeared, as in Utah. And that “as mysteriously as it appeared”, the radio station Jurnal FM stated.

If the Romanian press was not very interested in the whole matter, the social networks more than made up for it. “Actually, it’s just old junk that someone dumped here,” one Facebook user joked to the column’s account, describing it as a vulgar reproduction of a Utah block. “We’re not even able to make the right copy,” Alexander said indignantly, while other users pointed to obvious traces of welds.

It is not even clear yet whether it was really a monolith in the true sense of the word. Such an expression refers to a column or pillar made of one piece of stone. However, the designation is also used for uniform objects composed of other materials.
