Stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia will be held this Thursday with a route of 212 kilometers between Siena and Bagno di Romagna. The day is rated with four stars for having two intermediate sprints and four mountain passes and it will be a new challenge for Egan Bernall in his struggle to continue wearing the Pink Jersey
The Colombian will have to battle from km 76 when the runners run into the first third category mountain pass located on Monte Morello (7.7 km at 6.3 of unevenness), which includes slopes of 16 percent.
Later, two second-rate ports arrive; the first on the Passo della Consuma, with a route of 17 kilometers at a 6 percent gradient, and the second on the Passo della Calla, with 15.4 kilometers at a 5.4 percent incline.
Finally, it appears on the road a third category port located in the Passo del Carnaio with 10.8 kilometers at a 5 percent decline. This sector will have some quite difficult sections with slopes of 14%.
The final part will have quite a dangerous descent of 5 kilometers before reaching the last section that consists of 3 kilometers uphill to reach the finish line.
In the stage the protagonists are expected to be cyclists who attempt and can make a breakaway to seek victory away from the main peloton. In this scenario the best prepared in mountain conditions they will have more options to stay with the win.
If the escape does not materialize, it is very likely that the top favorites to the title take the baton of the fraction and try to stay with the victory. In this case, Egan Bernal, Aleksandr Vlasov, Damiano Caruso, Hugh John Carthy, Simon Yates, Emanuel Buchmann and Remco Evenepoel are called to appear in the race.
