In December, we wrote about a significant reduction in the prices of the aging generation of operating memories, but they became cheaper again within two months. According to comparators, 32GB sets can be bought from 1,600 CZK, 16GB sets from around 900 CZK.
It is not wise to buy the cheapest ones. Due to the lower frequencies and higher latencies, they will be slower overall, which will hamper gamers and those working with bandwidth-sensitive applications.
On a desktop, modules with a frequency from 3200 MHz with CL16 timing or 3600 MHz with CL18 timing are a reasonable optimum. For laptops or small computers using SO-DIMM modules, the recommended minimum frequency is 2666 MHz and CL19 timing.
Faster memories can cost several times more and are especially suitable for those who play on integrated graphics or want to achieve maximum performance regardless of finances.
In the current price lists, for example, the following desktop sets are worthwhile:
Among the SO-DIMM modules, Patriot Signature 16 GB (2666 MHz, CL19) for CZK 874 is now interesting in Mironet. But with laptops, you have to pay attention to what RAM parameters it supports, if it has available slots at all, or if it has memory soldered on the board. You will often come across, for example, the fact that there is a part of the memory directly on the board with a free slot in it, which you can use to add capacity and increase speed thanks to the two-channel approach. Therefore, advice and recommendations regarding laptops cannot be generalized too much.
