Darmstadt – Second division soccer team Darmstadt 98 is again affected by a massive corona outbreak. In the direct team environment, there were positive corona tests on Wednesday with a double-digit number of people, the club said.
Those affected are in isolation at home. The Hessians did not announce how many players are among them. “The situation that has now arisen is of course not ideal in terms of preparing for the hot phase of the season,” said Darmstadt’s sporting director Carsten Wehlmann.
It is the second time that the third-placed team has been hit by a corona wave this season. At the beginning of the season, twelve professionals were out. Coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team then lost their first three competitive games. With 48 points, the lilies are currently only three points behind the top duo FC St. Pauli and Werder Bremen.
“The squad has already proven this season that they have a real team spirit. That is why I am convinced that we will also clear these obstacles out of the way. We mastered this challenge at the beginning of the season and we will master it a second time,” said Wehlmann.
