The 41-year-old Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo announced the end of his football career through a video published on social networks, France Press reported.
“Good day everyone. Through this video I would like to tell you that I will be leaving professional football,” he said in a video on his Instagram profile, in which he thanked his clubs and teammates, as well as the Chilean national team.
Bravo, who has 150 caps for Chile, made his debut for local team Colo Colo in 2003, with whom he won two league titles.
He settled in Spain in 2006, where he spent most of his career playing for Real Sociedad, Barcelona and Betis Sevilla, his last club.
With Barcelona, he won everything for two seasons, including the 2015 treble – Champions League, title and Copa del Rey. With the Kanatul team, he achieved 8 consecutive matches with a clean sheet – 755 minutes, a record that has not been improved so far.
Fierce competition with German Marc-Andre ter Stegen prompted him to pack his bags and move to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in 2016, with whom he won 8 more trophies, including England’s first two league titles.
Bravo was the captain and key player of the “golden generation” of Chile’s national team, which won the Copa America in 2015 and 2016, the only titles in the country’s history.
During the last edition of the Copa America in the USA this summer, in the match against Peru, Claudio Bravo, at 41 years and 77 days, became the oldest player in the tournament, which dates back to 1916, bettering the achievement of Bolivian goalkeeper Carlos Truco from 1977 – 39 years and 322 days.
