Residents of the Pesch district reported a loud explosion shortly before three in the morning. After the explosion, the cafe was engulfed in flames, which firefighters managed to put out. The police and firefighters evacuated 25 people, two people were subsequently treated for smoke inhalation. No one was seriously injured.
However, two residents of the apartment building needed treatment for suspected smoke inhalation, the police said.
The Bild server reminds that this is already the sixth explosion in the West German city in the last six months. But the investigators point out that it is rather unlikely that the latest incident is related to the previous ones. “If the findings so far are confirmed, there is no connection with the explosions of recent weeks,” the police and prosecutor’s office said.
